Emission models are used to provide estimates of road transport emissions based on the main parameters that affect the overall pollutants production. Emission calculations rely on emission factors (EFs), which are derived from experimental data collected during vehicle emission measurement campaigns.
In order to develop consistent EFs and emissions estimates, the models overseen by the ERMES Group are based on a common set of emission measurements. ERMES partners collaborate in scheduling experimental campaigns, vehicle testing and data exchange.
Emissions data collection is performed by means of most widely used measurement techniques:
- LABORATORY (Chassis and engine dynamometer) testing
- PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurement System) testing
- REMOTE SENSING (roadside measurements)
