Who we are
The ERMES Group facilitates European Research on Mobile Emissions Sources and Low Carbon Mobility
The European Research for Mobile Emission Sources (ERMES) is a group of research institutions, competent authorities and industry associations active in the field of research on transport emissions, modelling, policy and practice.
ERMES promotes cooperation and knowledge exchange within its network of members providing an open, science-based, dialogue on sustainable transport.
The ERMES group emerged from the collaboration of two experienced research groups engaged in developing two key transport emission models: HBEFA (DACHNL group headed by INFRAS and TUG) and COPERT (EEA/JRC/LAT/Emisia).
Since 2009, the European Commission’s (EC) Joint Research Centre (JRC) has chaired the ERMES group. The group strives to bring together the knowledge produced in Europe, to facilitate information exchange and promote cooperation in the measurement and modelling of mobile emissions, energy consumption, and transport decarbonisation.
Members of the ERMES group share their experience, solve methodological issues and consolidate the knowledge to produce up-to-date calculation tools for monitoring, policy support and implementation. Measurement programmes are expensive yet indispensable for understanding the impact of technologies on transport sustainability and can validate and update inventory models.
The ERMES group meets regularly to share and discuss research results and priorities.
